Migrating to the cloud to better serve millions of customers

AT&T needed to overcome a legacy on-premises data architecture that created silos, raised costs, and made it hard for decision-makers to access a single source of truth. Working with Databricks and using Azure Databricks, the company aimed to migrate its data engineering, analytics, and AI workloads to the cloud while maintaining strong privacy, security, and governance.

Databricks helped AT&T train users, guide adoption across more than 60 business units, and move workloads over nine months into Azure Databricks, replacing siloed data warehouses with shared enterprise data assets. The result was a more collaborative data culture, faster access to analytics in tools like Power BI, and major infrastructure savings: AT&T retired about 40% of its previous infrastructure and reported a 300x ROI from the data center migration.
